“Genetics Care (gene) that is Trauma-Informed (TIC)”
A workgroup focused on improving the use of trauma-informed care for individuals with genetic diseases and their families.
Our Goals
- To increase provider education and training on how to best work with patients and families with genetics conditions who have experienced or who are at-risk for trauma
- Improve understanding of needs and barriers facing patients, families and providers in order to develop and implement trauma-informed protocols and services
Our Principles
By working together, we strive to improve the quality of care patients and families receive, support and empower providers to practice this care and honor the experiences of patients, caregivers, and families.
Founded on the mutual understanding that
- Having a genetic condition is both rewarding and stressful (potentially traumatic) for children and families, and
- That genetics providers can and should provide trauma-informed care in order to empower all patients and families to meet their unique goals
Our Team
An interdisciplinary team of behavioral health providers, genetic providers, medical providers and parents/caregivers of patients with genetic conditions.
